With most schools closed on Thursdays and Fridays, the Thanksgiving long weekend is one of the busiest travel times of the year.

AAA predicts a record 79.9 million travelers who would travel 50 miles or more from home during the Thanksgiving travel period. For the first time, AAA’s forecast included the Tuesday before and Monday after Thanksgiving Day to better accommodate the flow of holiday travelers.

This year’s projection of almost 80 million travelers is an increase of 1.7 million people compared to last year and 2 million more than in 2019.
