Mark Zuckerberg was mercilessly mocked for his unique clothing choice, wearing a baggy black T-shirt with a classic Latin phrase on it.
The Facebook CEO took the stage at Meta Connect 2024 wearing a special shirt that read “AUT ZUCK AUT NIHIL” — a play on the Latin phrase “Aut Caesar, Aut Nihil” — which translates to “Either a Caesar or nothing.”
Zuckerberg, 40, opened the developers conference on Wednesday with a keynote speech announcing the company’s new AI products, including the long-awaited Orion AR glasses.
The tech mogul was spotted wearing the “first fully functioning prototype” of “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen,” he said.
Users quickly flocked to the images of him wearing the unique T-shirt, with one commenting: “I know a modern Caesar when I see one.”

“Cool guy, huh?” wrote another.
“When I thought he was getting cool,” one commentator said.
Someone else said, “Wow, you really go for self-love, I think.”
“I won’t take it, thank you,” wrote another.
One user said Zuckerberg was “overdoing it” with the new t-shirt, adding: “As if wearing an oversized t-shirt wasn’t it, that quote on that t-shirt is just over the top. All he’s doing now is throwing more AI crap on Instagram.”
Recently he started designing some of his own garments, together with American fashion designer Mike Amiri.
During the Acquired podcast recording this month, Zuckerberg again showed off a special T-shirt.
One user said Zuckerberg was “overdoing it” with the new T-shirt, adding: “As if wearing an oversized T-shirt wasn’t it, that quote on that T-shirt is just over the top. All he’s doing now is pumping more AI crap onto Instagram.”
“I started collaborating with others to design some of my own garments,” he explains.
“I started making a series of shirts with some of my favorite classic sayings on them,” he continued.
Pointing to his oversized black T-shirt, Zuckerberg said, “So this is “patha mathos” — learning through suffering.”
The father of three also embraced Latin American attire on his 40th birthday.
In May, the Facebook founder shared rare photos of his family and friends at the party on Instagram. He too wore a black shirt that read “Carthago delenda est,” meaning “Carthage must be destroyed,” a reference to the centuries-old rivalry between the cities of Rome and Carthage.
During the festivities, his wife Priscilla Chan recreated “some of the places where Zuckerberg used to live.”
In one photo, he sat next to former Microsoft CEO Bill Gates in a miniature version of the Harvard dorm where the meta-billionaire developed the popular social media app.
In another photo, Zuckerberg stands with two of his three daughters, Maxima, eight, and August, six, as he gives them a tour of the replica of his childhood bedroom where he learned to code.
Earlier this month, Zuckerberg was spotted wearing a De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius wristwatch and a T-shirt of his own design during a podcast recording (pictured)

The notoriously frugal tech CEO recently overhauled his spending habits and personal style with a major makeover.
Earlier this month, Zuckerberg was spotted wearing a De Bethune DB25 Starry Varius watch while recording a podcast in San Francisco.
According to Yeahthe watch could be worth more than $95,000.
The eye-catching purchase appears to have been inspired by a lavish wedding Zuckerberg and Chen attended for Anant Ambani, the son of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani.
In a clip from the wedding, Zuckerberg is seen admiring the watch, before saying, “You know, I never really wanted a watch, but after I saw it, I was like, ‘Watches are cool.'”
In the late 2010s, Zuckerberg became the nation’s greatest enemy when he was questioned in Congress about selling the data and personal information of as many as 87 million users to companies.
He looked pale, ill and often uncomfortable. He wore a simple T-shirt and jeans and most of the photos on social media were of just him and his family.
His new look – featuring designer clothes, longer, curly hair and a light tan – is certainly a change from before.
During the festivities, his wife Priscilla Chan “recreated a lot of places where Zuckerberg lived in the early days”
Zuckerberg has been working hard in the gym to get a muscular and toned body
Although he has always had a very simple and casual style, the Meta mogul has been wearing trendy chains around his neck lately.
He also started designing his own clothes, together with American fashion designer Mike Amiri.
During the Acquired podcast recording this month, Zuckerberg wore one of his own designed T-shirts.
In addition to making his own clothes, the entrepreneur also embraces designer brands.
In June, he wore a $1,150 Balmain T-shirt while vacationing in Ibiza with his wife and a group of friends.
The group spent time on Zuckerberg’s mega-yacht, which is worth approximately $300 million.
Fans have also noticed lately that the social media giant is doing better than ever.
He has been working hard in the gym and training with MMA fighters, which has given him a significantly more muscular body.
Last month, the 40-year-old unveiled a bizarre statue of his wife.
He shared a photo of the monument, which appeared to be made of oxidized green copper and steel, on social media.
“The Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife is being restored,” he wrote.

Priscilla, 39, was photographed sipping a hot drink in front of the new statue, which was created by artist Daniel Arsham.
Zuckerberg gave no indication of what prompted the act of love, but friends and followers applauded the gesture.
TV star Gayle King responded, “Wow! Is there a backstory here or just Tuesday nights at your house?? P.S. Do you have an older brother who is black that I could meet… I’m asking for a friend.”
Liz Kelley wrote: ‘Men all over the world are shaking.’
Yung Vec said, “This is the most billionaire job you’ve ever done.”
And one user joked: ‘Was literally going to do the same for my wife. Now I have to change course.’
