Many offices and businesses will close their doors today in honor of Presidents Day.

The holiday – originally recognized as George Washington’s birthday – falls on the third Monday in February and was established to recognize American presidents.

While most banks and post offices will close their doors for the day, major shops will remain open – and all national parks will open with free entry.

Banks

Presidents’ Day is a bank and stock market holiday, which means major banks will all be closing their local branches. The New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq will also be closed.

However, their ATMs will function as normally as online services. Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Truist, Citibank and Capital One all confirmed to USA Today that their locations would be closed on Monday.

Postal services

The US Postal Service will be closed that day, meaning no residential or business deliveries will be made. The post offices will also be closed.

UPS will also not be picking up or delivering packages during the holiday, and some UPS store locations will be open limited hours.

However, FedEx services will continue as usual and its offices will remain open the company’s website. FedEx Express and FedEx Ground Economy will operate a ‘custom service’.

Major retailers

Many of the larger retailers — including Macy’s, Nordstrom and Best Buy — are offering special Presidents’ Day sales.

Amazon also has a special section on its homepage for holiday deals.

Restaurant chains

All major restaurant chains are also open normally. McDonald’s, KFC, Applebee’s, Burger King and Chick-fil-A should be open during their usual hours, although these may vary by location.

National parks

Libraries and museums

Public libraries – along with non-critical government services such as city offices and the Department of Motor Vehicles – are also closed for the holiday.

However, most museums remain on holiday during the holidays.

Pharmacies

Pharmacies, including CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid, will be open during the holidays, although some may have adjusted hours.
