What is Alan Tudyk’s secret role in Superman?
David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan will star as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The rest of the cast includes Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Skyler Gisondo (Jimmy Olsen), Nathan Fillion (a Green Lantern) and many more.
Term reported on Friday that another name has been added to that list: Alan Tudyk, of Villain One, Firefly, Resident alien fame, in a ‘secret role’. But what role is it?
Tudyk has deep experience in the DC Universe, sometimes on screen and sometimes as a voice actor. He has appeared in animated DC TV shows (Harley Quinn, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young JusticeGunn’s coming Creature commands), animated DC movies (Justice League: War), live-action DC shows (Doom Patrol), and now a live-action DC movie.
So far in the DC universe, Tudyk has (deep breath) The Joker, Clayface, Calendar Man, Condiment King, Doctor Trap, Firefly, Ocean Master, The Flash, Green Arrow, Psimon, Captain Cold, Superman, Mr. Played Nobody, and (soon) Doctor Phosphorus Creature commands. That must be some kind of record. But who does he star in? Superman? Here are our top guesses.
Reprising the role of Doctor Phosphorus in live-action certainly seems like a possibility. Gunn has said, “We’re going to have characters go into animation, outside of animation, with usually the same actor voicing them that plays them in live-action.” But that makes the secretive nature of this casting a bit strange: reprising the role seems like something DC Studios might announce.
Consider: Martian Manhunter, a potential CG-heavy role for a talented voice actor with ties to what’s happening in space in this costume reveal. There are a lot of heroes flying around Gunn’s Superman universe, and J’onn J’onzz could be one of them.
It certainly looks like Brainiac will be in Gunn’s film, and as of this report that role remains unannounced. But that’s the kind of leading villain that might be set aside for an even bigger name. If Superman’s Brainiac is captured by motion, however, which could increase Tudyk’s shares in that particular case.
There are dozens more unusual options in the Superman canon that Tudyk could tackle, like the mischievous trickster Mister Mxyzptlk (a character whose actor I just can’t believe). not still played).
I would be thrilled if he delivered his absolutely delightful performance as Mr. Would bring back Nobody from the first season Doom Patrolno matter how unlikely that seems. I won’t get my hopes up.

Here’s what Tudyk had to say about the casting report:
What I’m coming to is that I think Alan Tudyk could play pretty much any DCU character and I’d be happy with that. But for now, cut the noise: who are you likely to root for, and who would you most like to see play?
