What I asked for vs what I got: Shein’s biggest flop

Shoppers were stunned after their orders from fast-fashion retailer Shein weren’t what they expected.

With items as low as £1 in its winter sale, Chinese fast fashion giant Shein has a range of affordable clothing, housewares, accessories and electronics.

But excited customers hoping for a successful deal have shared their dismay when they unpacked their purchases to discover the items weren’t what they had in mind.

Posting a ‘what I ordered versus what I got’ style video, customer Melanie Wilmoth of Ohio couldn’t hide her disappointment when trying on a pair of jeans she bought at the retailer.

What I got: The jeans were too long when Melanie from Ohio tried them on and it looked like she was wearing fins.

Melanie expected a pair of ankle-ruched stacked blue jeans, but after trying them on, she revealed that the jeans were too long and looked like a pair of flippers.

Responding to a comment that advised her to pull up her jeans, she said that “they’re still too long.”

While some users claimed the customer was misusing the jeans, one said they made the TikToker look like a platypus.

What I ordered: Heather from New Jersey purchased a faux fur rug from Shein that looked like a plush rug in the product image.

What I got: The rug turned out to be a small circular rug that was just big enough for her to stand on.

In a similar video, TikTok user Heather from New Jersey had ordered Shein’s solid faux fur rug, which was advertised as a plush-looking rug in a cozy bedroom.

But the fashion and travel enthusiast shared her outrage online when the small circular rug was just big enough for her to stand on.

TikTokers showed their amusement in the comments section and one assumed that the image on the website could only have been taken in ‘an American dollhouse’.

Others suggested that Heather repurpose the rug by using it to decorate a chair or as a “centerpiece.”

Another customer, Kendra, from Ontario, issued a stern warning to her followers in a video titled: “This is your cue to never order Shein lashes…”

Sharing a photo of the bargain Sheglam lashes she thought she ordered, she then applied the set, revealing the unexpected result.

What I Ordered: Kendra from Ontario posted a photo of the thick lashes she ordered from the fashion website.

What I got: The lashes turned out to be extra long and uneven when the client tried them on

She showed the extra-long jagged lashes to the camera, adding in the comments, “I think they gave me the wrong ones because I checked the reviews and they looked good.”

But another customer commented, “I literally got the same pair and they came like that too.”

Meanwhile, comments flooded in defense of Shein’s false lashes with some even saying that Kendra could draw on an eyeliner to finish the look.

Akira, 22, from North Carolina, shared her Shein conundrum with her followers, showing off her purchase of a glamorous pair of high-heeled red boots.

She wrote: “She counts your days” as she revealed that, when she tried on the $45 boots, the heel was too short.

What I Ordered: Akira, from North Carolina, ordered a glamorous pair of high-heeled red boots from the retailer.

What I got: When Akira unpacked the delivery, he found that the check was too short.

He jokingly performed a tap dance with the shoes in his TikTok video and showed off the uneven design of the shoes.

He jokingly performed a tap dance with his boots over the knee, demonstrating that he would have to lean back on his heels for balance.

Amused viewers shared their tips saying, “You just have to walk really fast,” while one recommended she find a heel extender to fix her shoes.

Another described the short heels by saying, “heel is air,” while one advised Akira to “lean forward a bit.”

In another homewares dilemma, Dana, from New York, shared her surprise when her mom’s Shein purchase arrived.

Commissioned the 12 Pieces Hexagon Mirror Wall Sticker which was shown in a picture on the website as mirrored shapes set in a stylish decoration.

However, when the package was delivered, the product turned out to be a collection of small shapes that needed to be glued together individually.

What I Ordered: Dana’s mom, from New York, ordered a fancy-looking wall décor made of hexagonal mirrors.

What I got: The self-assembly product arrived as small individual stickers in a plastic bag.

TikTok users found the delivery funny, with one commenting, “You’re lying to me.”

Meanwhile, one user seemed to believe the package was just what they ordered, writing: ‘yes, is that a sticker?’

Shein shopper Tori Walker, 25, of North Shields, was similarly surprised when the knee-length crochet dress she ordered on the website for a holiday in Thailand arrived.

In the product image, the olive-colored dress covered the model’s thighs with the tassels almost touching her knees.

But the 5-foot-4 customer was surprised when she tried on the dress and it barely came to her waist, looking more like a crop top.

What I Ordered: Tori from North Shields bought a green crochet beach dress with tassels for her vacation in Thailand.

What I got: When the product was tried on, it barely reached her waist and looked like a crop top.

Tori said the bag had the correct product code on it, so she didn’t think the wrong product had been sent to her.

Tori, who paid £10.12 for the dress using a discount code, said: “It kept making me laugh.” I thought, ‘Um, that’s short,’ so I tried it on and said, ‘No…’

‘I checked the reviews and people’s photos looked like the website. So I kept laughing because how does mine look so different? It’s literally like a crop top.

“I’m a little furious, because it’s also poor quality with threads hanging down, and because I was so excited and happy when I ordered it and I thought it would look great.”

He said he didn’t think the wrong item had been shipped to him because the bag had the correct product code on it.

Shein has been contacted for comment.
