What does SVP mean in Marvel Rivals?

Marvel Rivals not only awards the standard MVP at the end of each match, but also declares someone the Please – a mysterious title that never fully explains the game.

In this Marvel Rivals guide, we’ll show you what the SVP award means and how you can earn it on your team.

What is the SVP in Marvel Rivals?

SVP stands for Second valuable playerand is an award given to the best performing member of the losing team in Marvel Rivals. It mirrors the MVP award (for Most Valuable Player) that the game automatically awards to the best player on the winning team.

To earn the SVP title, you must perform your role better than the rest of your teammates. It’s a bit esoteric, but that could mean something along the lines of the following:

Earning the SVP award at the end of a match doesn’t seem to provide any benefit in Quick Play or Competitive Ranked mode. What’s more, all members of the losing team lose ranked pointseven if you are the SVP. The only way to lose and not drop in rank is to have a Loss Prevention Shield, which you can only earn by losing multiple matches.

However, there are some community members who seem to think you get more ranking points if you win as MVP, and lose fewer points if you lose as SVP – something we noticed on our own climb. That said, the exact numbers aren’t easy to verify, as how the game determines how many ranked points you win or lose is currently unknown, and the MVP or SVP winner could be a factor or completely unrelated has.

Until players discover how the ranking points system works – or the developers at NetEase Games reveal the game’s secrets – it’s best to think of SVP as a purely honorary title.

Correction (January 6, 2025): An earlier version of this guide stated that the SVP award winner did not lose ranking points in competitive games. The guide has been updated to reflect that you will indeed lose ranked points if you are the SVP.
