Hundreds were surprised to see inside the bag a congealed lump of salty corn kernels in hardened oily butter.
Many thought the pre-cooked popcorn looked ‘coarse’, but not everyone was put off by the buttery mass and thought it was ‘obvious’ what the contents would look like.
A man posted on Reddit and shared one image of the microwaveable snack after tearing open the bag, eliciting more than 35,700 responses.
Many were surprised by the discovery, while others joked that opening a bag of popcorn before microwaving it feels “illegal.”

Other popcorn aficionados said they always take the buttery kernels out of the wrapper and cook them on the stove instead.
