What a hoot! Little owls get on each other’s nerves (and backs) while practicing their flying skills

Two highly animated young owls put on a playful display for an amateur photographer as they harassed each other as they practiced their flying skills.

In one moment of a series of stunning photos of the playful creatures, one of the little birds looks downright annoyed while the other lands on its back.

The pair of quarrelsome owls seem to struggle to position themselves on a small branch, one even pecking the other on the head as they struggle for the spot.

Another dramatic image shows one of the birds flying over his friend, who appears completely oblivious to the looming threat as he sits firmly on his perch.

The photos were taken by amateur photographer David Manusevitch at a quarry in Israel’s Negev region.

The 62-year-old seller, who lives in Ashqelon, Israel, said: “These little owls live in small caves in Israel.

‘I watched these young owls play and learn to fly in a quarry in the south of the country.

“I’d say they’re about five months old.

“I waited patiently for about two hours before I could get these shots.

“It’s hard to capture the moment. In Israel it is very hot, so to take such pictures you really need patience.

“I love how expressive the owls’ eyes are in these photos.”
