Wham!’s Andrew Ridgeley ‘working on new Netflix documentary to mark 40th anniversary of band’s debut album’

Andrew Ridgeley is working on a Netflix documentary to mark the 40th anniversary of Wham!’s debut album Fantastic.

The singer, 60, formed half of Wham! along with the late George Michael, with the duo becoming one of the most popular bands of the 1980s.

According to The sunAndrew has been working with George’s estate to come up with ideas for the anniversary and there are also plans to re-release their music.

An insider said, “There’s a whole lot of stuff lined up for Wham! for the 40th anniversary. It contains numerous unseen images.

“There are still millions of Wham! fans all over the world and it will be very special for them to hear the group’s stories as there are many that Andrew has never spoken about.”

A new TikTok channel has also been launched to bring the band’s music to a new generation of listeners.

Andrew said, “It’s heartening to know that the TikTok generation is embracing the vibrancy of Wham!’s and its appeal to young and old alike.”

Last Christmas – the duo’s most famous song – reached number one in 2020 for the first time in 36 years, bringing the money flowing.

They achieved another number one for Last Christmas as they returned to the top of the charts for the final week of 2022.

The Official Charts Company said the popular celebratory song took the top spot for the second time this year.

Some 38 years after it was first released, the song sold over 79,000 copies and was the most streamed song of the week in the UK, with Andrew saying on Twitter that he was ‘delighted’ at the news.

Referring to Wham!’s last non-Christmas number one with The Edge of Heaven in 1986, Andrew wrote: ‘Crikey, twice in the same month! You wait 36 ​​years for a number one and then they come like buses!
