Shameful bad luck has followed NRL club Wests Tigers like a lost puppy this season and so has their supporters, as one fan found out the hard way on Thursday night.
The joint venture club’s reputation is in tatters after a 12-year drought in the finals and a wooden spoon in 2022, with the Tigers battling to avoid another last-place finish this season.
Wests star halfback is injured and will be out next year, blue-chip signing Api Koroisau is also out of action and the club was taped by the North Queensland Cowboys by a record 74-0 margin two weeks ago.
Still, the hardened Tigers fans showed up on Thursday night to support their team against Cronulla at Sydney’s CommBank Stadium.
It even seemed to be a winning night for one fan.
However, like the footy side, his hopes were quickly dashed in humiliating fashion.
It should have been that easy, but one unlucky West Tigers fan missed a flight of stairs right in front of an open container and took a chance on a mini bar fridge
Wests corporate partner Teco has been giving away appliances to Tigers fans since 2022, including this stylish mini fridge, which last night’s fan missed
Teco Australia is a corporate sponsor of the Tigers and regularly hosts home game giveaways.
On Thursday night, one lucky supporter had a golden chance to win a custom mini bar fridge emblazoned with the Wests Tigers logo and worth approximately $250.
All he had to do was kick a Steeden into a large bin at close range.

In what many fans believe sums up the Tigers’ season, the fan lined up his kick and promptly fired the ball into the rim of the container.
All he – and the shocked fans in the stands – could do was laugh.
‘The highlight of the evening’, grinned a supporter after the 36-12 defeat.
“He would probably still go well in halves,” another fan sarcastically added.
“They’ll probably sign him lol,” another posted.

The Tigers are currently fielding an almost unrecognizable roster of young players as the club looks to build to 2024.
And die-hard supporters were quick to thrash game officials for the loss, including a no-try call from the bunker for Tommy Talau at a crucial moment when the Tigers were still in the game.
“We couldn’t get 50/50 calls. The final score was not a true reflection of the game,” one fan posted.
“The disallowed attempt changed the momentum. In any case, we have shown more commitment,” posted another.
“It certainly wasn’t 74 and at least we put points on the board,” added an optimistic supporter.
