Westmead Hospital Sydney: Man is charged after allegedly stabbing security guards

A man has been charged after allegedly stabbing two male security guards and wounding a third at Westmead Hospital in Sydney.

Police were called to the hospital in the west of the city at around 11.30pm on Friday after reports that a 39-year-old man had attacked three security guards aged 24, 25 and 31.

The 24-year-old suffered stab wounds to his wrist, while the 25-year-old had cuts to his neck.

The 31-year-old security guard suffered a dislocated shoulder, while a 29-year-old male hospital worker also suffered minor injuries.

All four are believed to be recovering and in stable conditions.

The alleged knifeman is said to have been a patient at the hospital and was under police guard before being taken to Parramatta Police Station.

He was charged on Saturday afternoon with five offences, including two counts of assault on a frontline healthcare worker – actual bodily harm, assault on the frontline healthcare worker – no actual bodily harm, common assault and use etc. of offensive weapons to evade lawful detention prevent.

The 39-year-old was refused bail and is due to appear in Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.
