Westfield evacuated after fire breaks out in Penrith shopping centre

A major shopping center in Sydney's west has been evacuated due to a fire that disrupted thousands of shoppers.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said four trucks attended Penrith Westfield at around 1.20pm on Sunday after a fire broke out at a food court in the popular shopping destination.

It is believed that as many as 3,000 people were evacuated as firefighters tried to control the blaze.

One person was reportedly treated by ambulance for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

FRNSW said nine fire engines and 28 firefighters had attended the scene.
