Police are investigating an alleged rape of a professional football player.
A Western Sydney Wanderers player has been identified as one of two individuals of interest in a 2018 Mount Druitt sexual assault case.
The alleged rape took place after a game between the Wanderers and Newcastle Jets at the Spotless Stadium in Homebush on November 23.
Details about the circumstances surrounding the incident are not yet known, but the alleged victim was a fan.

She attended the match and met the player after talking to him online.
“On Thursday, May 5, 2022, officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command began an investigation after receiving a report of an alleged assault in Mt Druitt in November 2018,” the NSW Police Department said in a statement confirming the shocking allegations.
“As the investigation into the incident is ongoing, no further information is available at this time.”
Football Australia said they were informed that the police are investigating the incident.

“When notified of the allegations via social media in 2021, Football Australia immediately brought the matter to the attention of the NSW Police Force,” Football Australia told the newspaper. Daily Telegram.
“Football Australia has treated the allegations it received in 2021 with the utmost seriousness and in ongoing coordination with NSW Police and relevant government organisations.
“We are unable to comment further on an investigation by Football Australia while the matter is still the subject of the police investigation.”
The Wanderers have declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
