Western Health embarks on workplace modernisation

Western Health in Victoria has embarked on a comprehensive transformation of its IT infrastructure.

Following a tender process, Logicalis Australia, an IT solutions provider, was awarded a contract to support the healthcare sector with its Modern Workplace transformation programme. According to a press release, the program aims to improve collaboration, communication, security and document management capabilities within the organization.

WHY IT MATTERS

Western Health, a major healthcare provider serving nearly a million people, has faced a number of technical and end-user challenges with its existing infrastructure. It has suffered from disjointed processes, ineffective tools, and storage and computing limitations.

To this end, it initiated its digital transformation and modernization program, focusing on patient data and identity.

In addition to improving operational efficiency and improving the quality of care, the Modern Workplace program provides a foundation for data analytics and AI, “allowing us to harness the power of data to further improve patient outcomes,” says Cameron McBride, Director of Digital Technology Services at Western Health.

THE BIG TREND

The digital transformation started last year with the rebuilding Western Health’s identity management system, which was also provided by Logicalis. This system is based on Microsoft Active Directory and manages the identity, authentication and authorization for all users of its network and IT resources.

This rework later enabled the rollout of an ERP and EMR system within Western Health. A records management solution was also implemented to improve document management and compliance.

Logicalis also facilitated the healthcare service’s integration of Microsoft 365, allowing office and remote employees to work securely and efficiently. The IT company also strengthened their Microsoft Azure cloud environment.
