Western Digital has expanded its range of high-performance SanDisk Professional products with the introduction of the PRO-G40 SSD.
The company’s new SSD is compatible with both USB 3.2 Gen 2 and Thunderbolt 3 connections. And with an IP68 certification, it’s Western Digital’s most durable product.
It’s also the fastest SanDisk model ever to hit the market, with read and write speeds of 2700 MB/s. With these speeds, this drive should be able to handle even the most demanding workloads, moving 50 GB in less than 30 seconds via Thunderbolt 3.
Powerful, flexible, durable
Built with flexibility, durability and rugged performance in mind, the new PRO-G40 is designed for a range of professional applications.
Dual-mode compatibility with Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbps) and USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps) hosts makes working across a wide range of devices easy. There is no need to switch between drives when recording directly to the SSD from a camera or video editing content on a computer, for example.
The durability of the Pro-G40 SSD is also a notable feature, with an IP68 rating suggesting it can survive up to 30 minutes under 1.5m of water and is resistant to dirt and sand. Furthermore, the disc features a frame that is up to 4000 pounds and can survive a drop of up to 3 meters. The design of this incredible rough drive helps it endure the toughest elements.
Compared to other popular SSDs, this WD PRO-G40 is also remarkably fast. The SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2 achieves top read and write speeds of 2000 MB/s, the Samsung T7 SSD achieves approximately 1000 MB/s read and write speeds, and the Seagate Fast SSD is approximately 440 MB/s.
The new PRO-G40 SSD is available now for £415/$380 (TechRadar Pro awaiting pricing confirmation for Australian customers) in 1TB and 2TB capacities with a five-year limited warranty.
