Western Australia captain Ashton Turner’s daughter steals show after side’s Marsh One Day Cup win

Western Australia may have won back-to-back Marsh Cups, but it was skipper Ashton Turner’s daughter Billie who stole the show on Wednesday night.

The Warriors had just utterly defeated South Australia after setting a record target of 7/387, giving their already packed case yet another trophy after winning multiple BBL, Marsh Cup and Sheffield Shield titles in the last years.

Turner, the leader of a golden generation of homegrown Western Australian cricketers, was giving an interview on the WACA turf when his daughter Billie decided enough was enough.

The adorable five-year-old ran up and was completely enthralled with the shiny Marsh Cup trophy, admiring her reflection in it as Turner tried to gently push her away.

She then tipped it upside down to see what was inside before the team rallied to lift the cup.

The hilarious moment that followed caused social media to crash.

Billie wanted to help her father lift the trophy, but when the cheering Western Australian team gathered for a victory photo, instead of shooing her away, Turner decided to push her under the table and away from the cameras.

It was a brutal parenting move on the part of the 30-year-old father of three, who married his long-time partner Krystenna in February 2022.

Fans were quick to vent their hilarity, with many applauding his “elite parenting.”

‘Can we just take a moment to appreciate the elite breeding move at the end to make sure she’s out of the team’s shot?’ one fan commented.

‘It just shows one thing, Ashton is a great dad. Billie’s parents have taught her to be fearless and expressive, essential to being a true human being. Congratulations!!’ another wrote.

“This should definitely go on your 18th birthday party video compilation list, get ready for that Billie,” said one, while another suggested, “They should have filled the trophy with candy for the kid.”

Billie is not just a keen cricket watcher, she is also a keen participant and was the first registered player for this 2022/23 season.

“She’s always loved cricket because it’s a chance for her to hang out with other kids and throw a ball,” Turner told the Western Australia at the end of last year.

‘When my wife found out she was old enough to join the local cricket club, she asked if she wanted to play cricket and Billie was very interested.

‘The opportunities for girls are the best they’ve ever had. It’s not so much about cricket (at young ages) but more about boys and girls having a little fun and developing their social skills.”

Wednesday night’s victory was the team’s second title of the summer, after Turner led the Scorchers to a BBL victory against the Heat in front of 53,886 excited fans in Perth on February 4.

Australian goalkeeper prospect Josh Inglis was named Man of the Match for a brilliant 138 from 110 balls, the highest score in a one-day Cup final of all time.

Cameron Bancroft (90 for 112) and Mitch Marsh (56 for 30) also hit big runs in the team’s massive target of 387 for their allotted 50 overs.

South Australia never responded despite a good start, losing 10/122 to be dismissed for 206 thanks to a strong performance from Aussie Test outcast Ashton Agar (5-64) and perennial AJ Tye (3-34).

Domestic cricket now sees states turn their attention to the Sheffield Shield, with Western Australia at the top of the ladder and looking for, you guessed it, back-to-back titles.
