West Tigers playmaker Adam Doueihi in hot water after he calls LGBTQ inclusion post ’embarrassing’

Wests Tigers have issued Adam Doueihi an 'explanation' after he called a social media post about LGBTQI inclusion in the sport 'shameful'.

But the Tigers five-eighth denied he intended to denigrate the LGBTQI community with his since-deleted Instagram comment.

Doueihi was responding to a post on the English Premier League's Instagram page with the headline “How to talk about LGBTQ+ inclusion.”

The upload came as part of Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign, through which the EPL will promote LGBTQI inclusion with a variety of initiatives between December 2 and 7.

Doueihi posted an “embarrassing post” underneath the upload, which provided guidance on how to discuss LGBTQI inclusivity.

The 25-year-old later deleted the comment, but not before it amassed more than 9,000 likes.

The Tigers have not launched a formal investigation into the comment, but called Doueihi on Sunday for an explanation.

Doueihi told the club he felt the post dictated what people could say to the LGBTQI community, which he found “shameful.”

He said he deleted his comment after realizing it could be misinterpreted as homophobic.

A club representative told AAP that the Tigers were an inclusive club that would remain a safe place for fans and players.

The NRL Integrity Unit is not involved in the case.

In October, Doueihi voiced his support for a Sydney Catholic girls' school's decision to prevent students from bringing female dates to their Year 12 formal.

Doueihi grew up identifying as a Christian.

The playmaker is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in April, but coach Benji Marshall said last month he could feature at some point in the 2024 season.
