West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady believes Graham Potter is the man to bring more silverware to the club.

Potter was installed at the London Stadium this week after the Hammers sacked Julen Lopetegui, ending a nearly two-year absence from the game following his departure from Chelsea.

Brady says Potter is the right person to follow in David Moyes’ footsteps by winning trophies for the club after winning the Europa Conference League in 2023.

“We believe the right foundations are in place for further future success at West Ham United,” she told The Sun.

“It’s only 18 months since we enjoyed European glory and while that night in Prague will never be forgotten, there is a genuine and fierce hunger at this club to ensure we continue to work as hard as we can to build more and to create. special memories.

‘That is why we have not hesitated to sign him on a two-and-a-half-year contract, and that is why we are confident that we have appointed not only a good man, but also the right man for West Ham United.’

The former Chelsea boss replaced Julen Lopetegui as West Ham manager earlier this week

In his first match, his team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa in the FA Cup on Friday evening

The decision to sack former Spain and Real Madrid boss Lopetegui, who was only appointed in the summer and given a lot of money to spend, came after a disappointing start to the season.

“At West Ham United we have always taken as much care and pride in recruiting the ‘man’ as we do in recruiting the ‘manager’,” Brady added.

‘And so we were disappointed that it didn’t work out with Julen Lopetegui.

‘In all my years in football, making the decision to part ways with a manager has never been an easy, straight forward or enjoyable task.’

Although Potter is being backed to win trophies, it will not be the FA Cup this season after they lost their third round tie at Aston Villa on Friday evening.

Lucas Paqueta put the visitors ahead after just nine minutes, but second-half goals from Amadou Onana and Morgan Rogers sent Unai Emery’s men through.

Villa managed to win only a second FA Cup match in nine years, despite the absence of goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who was sidelined with an injury.

Midfielder Ross Barkley has also suffered a calf problem and is expected to be out for several weeks.

The Hammers are fourteenth in the table and appear unlikely to play European football next season

‘He got hurt. It’s a minor injury,” Emery said of Martinez.

“He wasn’t 100 percent ready to play yet. We decided to play Robin Olsen. I think he will play the next game, but we will have to monitor him more.

“Barkley had a small injury to his calf, hopefully not much. We’ll check him tomorrow, but normally in two or three weeks.’
