West Ham are set to sack Julen Lopetegui today as they move to appoint Graham Potter as their new boss.

Potter has been in discussions with owner David Sullivan over the past 48 hours with a view to replacing Lopetegui.

Those discussions are now in their final stages and once they are concluded, it is expected that Lopetegui will be formally removed from his position.

Lopetegui’s press conference this afternoon has been cancelled.

Sources close to Lopetegui know that his dismissal is only a matter of time.

Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that the club were still hopeful of appointing Potter but had been working on alternatives as talks over his appointment dragged into a third day.

Intriguingly, Everton, who decide to sack Sean Dyche, are believed to have some interest in Potter.

And sources have indicated that there are concerns at the London Stadium that the possibility of joining Everton under new ownership is an attractive prospect for Potter.

West Ham ideally wanted Potter to take the job until the end of the season before reassessing, but talks on Tuesday focused on the length of the contract.

Potter had yet to formally accept the position on Tuesday evening, a situation which had led to Hammers officials exploring alternatives.

Among them would be Christophe Galtier, who is currently head coach at Qatari club Al Duhail.

The 58-year-old has experience as a coach in France, having managed Paris Saint-Germain, Nice, St Etienne and Lille.

Another long-term goal was Paulo Fonseca. Fonseca has come close to the club in the past and is currently out of work after leaving AC Milan at the end of last year.

But Potter has always been their main target and West Ham are now close to appointing him.
