One West Ham fan will wake up with a sore head after jubilant celebrations after the club defeated Dutch side AZ Alkmaar to progress to the Europa Conference League final.
David Moyes’ side defeated the Dutch club 3-1 on aggregate in last night’s draw, giving Hammers supporters the chance to watch their team play in their first European final in 47 years.
Despite managing to avoid conflict with the Dutch supporters in Alkmaar, the fan got away with a self-inflicted bruise after stepping on a bench which rocketed up and comically punched him in the face.
The video shows the delighted supporter topless on a podium, waving his shirt around his head after Pablo Fornals’ superb solo attack cemented West Ham’s spot in this year’s final in Prague.
As his friends watched, the supporter stepped off the stage before placing all his weight on the end of a large bench, which sprang from his position and punched him in the face.

A user on Twitter called the incident “comedy gold”
Spectators could be forgiven for thinking they were watching a scene from the Tom & Jerry cartoon as the supporter sheepishly raised herself from the floor.
Users on Twitter reacted hysterically to the footage, with one calling the incident “comedy gold.”
Another wrote: ‘Classic slapstick in real life, absolutely brilliant’
Meanwhile, the festivities in the Netherlands were marred by violent scenes at the end of the game, with a number of AZ Alkmaar supporters attacking part of the stand where friends and family of West Ham players were seated.
Members of security managed to separate the Alkmaar supporters – dressed all in black so as not to be identified – from the West Ham fans who had traveled to support their team.
West Ham’s last appearance in a European final was in the 1975–76 Cup Winners’ Cup, where they lost 4–2 to Belgian side Anderlecht.
They came close to that trend last season, losing to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-finals.
