A West Ham fan died on Thursday after being hit by a train following the London side’s 1-1 draw against Belgian side Ghent.

The 57-year-old supporter had been at KAA Stadium to watch David Moyes’ team in the Europa Conference League before traveling back via the train station, where he was hit.

He was taken to hospital for emergency treatment, but was later pronounced dead.

Investigators at Ghent’s Sint-Pietersstation labeled it an ‘unfortunate accident’.

Train services in the area were reportedly disrupted for hours after the collision, before normal service resumed around 3am on Friday morning.

Belgian broadcaster VRT NWS reported that the man was hit by the train at 9:45 p.m.

It is said that he ended up on track 12 when he collided with a train bound for Ostend.

Gent’s fans are now preparing for a trip to London when the two teams meet next week for the quarter finals of the Europa Conference League.

The score is tied at 1-1 and everyone still has to play for a place in the semi-finals.
