David Moye’s side were keen to bring the England international to the London Stadium, but Newcastle have agreed a £38 million deal to sign him.

The 25-year-old will fill the gap left by Allan Saint Maximin, who is destined to move to Saudi Al Ahli.

Barnes becomes Newcastle’s second big name in the summer transfer window after the arrival of Sandro Tonali, who joined from AC Milan for £52m.
