- Coach nearly fired at the end of the 2023 season
- Simpson led the team to the flag in 2018
- In recent years we have seen a series of terrible results
West Coast have sacked coach Adam Simpson after poor results in recent years.
The Eagles released a brief statement Tuesday confirming the split.
It was not confirmed whether Simpson would leave immediately or if he would be given a farewell match.
Simpson was on the verge of being fired late last year and knew he was under pressure again.
The club must now pay him nearly $1 million to terminate his contract.
“We went through this last year, didn’t we?” Simpson said on the Seven Network on Monday night.
“We’re going to work through it. We’re going to keep the conversations fairly open.
“We’re going to keep moving forward. I’m sure we’ll make a decision.”

However, he has also led the club through one of the darkest periods in its history in terms of results, with West Coast winning just eight of their last 57 games.
The 48-year-old is one of only six senior coaches in the team’s 37-year history
Asked if he wanted clarity on his position, Simpson replied: ‘I haven’t really thought about that yet.
“I just try to do my job the best I can and explain what we’re trying to get better at.
‘I thought we had some really good results at the start of the season.
‘There have been a few games in the last month that have been quite disappointing, so I can understand the rhetoric around it.’
Simpson has been at the helm of West Coast since 2014, guiding the club to the 2015 Grand Final and the 2018 flag.
The Eagles have won just eight of their last 57 games, with the tension only heightened after disappointing losses to Hawthorn and Melbourne in the past two weeks.
West Coast take on Brisbane Lions at Optus Stadium on Sunday.
Star defender Jeremy McGovern is almost certain to miss the game with a broken rib and a suspected punctured lung.
