A mother of eight and her partner have been accused of neglect following the death of their six-month-old son.
Maraea Te Oke Mae Hunia, 31, and her partner Jahley Poata, 30, stood before the Perth Magistrates Court on Friday, two days after their son died.
The couple allegedly failed to provide the baby with the necessary medical, corrective and therapeutic care between June 1 and September 27, the court heard.

The mother of eight and Mr Poata did not apply for bail and spoke on Friday only to confirm their names in court (pictured, Ms Hunia poses on social media)
The boy, also known as Jahley Poata, died Wednesday at Perth’s Children’s Hospital after being transferred from their local hospital.
“On September 26, the baby was admitted to Collie Hospital and transferred to Perth Children’s Hospital due to his condition,” police said. The Western Australian.
Neither parent asked for bail and spoke only to confirm their names in court on Friday.
They will face court again on Tuesday.
Ms Hunia is a “glamor model” and has a TikTok following of nearly 3,000 and 7,400 on Instagram.
She said she models for Kiwi clothing brand Marley The Label and for Maneki Meow, a Japanese label, and posts photos of her outfits.
Ms Hunia also said she is a skin care consultant for the Monat brand and a beauty and hair expert.
