President Joe Biden on Friday gave an optimistic assessment of his party’s chances in next week’s midterm elections, claiming that Democrats will keep the Senate and may even keep the House of Representatives — despite a slew of polls suggesting that the Republicans will make huge gains.
“I think we’re going to win this time. I have a very good feeling about our chances,” he said.
“I think we’ll keep the senate, free up a seat. I think we have a chance of winning the House.’
Biden made his comments before flying out of California on a trip to bolster support for his party before the vote ends Tuesday.
For the past month, Republicans have taken a comfortable lead in House races — with most forecasters saying they will take control of the lower house — and gain a smaller advantage in the Senate.
Pollsters say an ongoing crisis in the cost of living has eroded democratic support across the country.
