Wellington earthquake: 4.8-magnitude tremor rocks New Zealand

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck New Zealand’s capital Wellington late this evening.

The quake was felt at 11.38pm (9.38pm AEST) about 15km southwest of the city.

The impact struck at a depth of about 13km and woke the Kiwis.

“That really got my attention. The first rumble was intense and then a big shock. The old heart started to work a little bit,” said one Wellingtonian.

“Damn, that woke us up,” wrote another on X.

“That rumble had me frozen. I thought it was going to be huge,” said another.
