Former Victorian Liberal MP Inga Peulich has died in a shocking death at the age of 67.
Ms Peulich was known for her conservative views and was a staunch opponent of Melbourne’s supervised injection room and the Safe Schools program.
She retired from politics after losing her seat in the South Eastern Metropolitan Upper House in the 2018 elections.
She previously served in the House of Commons for ten years, having been elected to the seat of Bentleigh in 1992 as part of Jeff Kennett’s first government.
She was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Education under the Baillieu/Napthine government, which was in power from 2010 to 2014.
The news of her death came as a shock to current MPs and former colleagues.
Victorian Opposition Leader John Pesutto said he sent his condolences to Ms Peulich’s family, including her husband Savo, son Paul and mother Nena.
“Inga Peulich was a fierce advocate for multicultural communities in Victoria, Melbourne’s south-east and the Liberal Party,” he said.
“Inga’s dedication to the community has ensured that her life, achievements, career and commitment have fulfilled these dreams. She has paved the way for many immigrants to our great state.”
