Weipa, Queensland: Tributes for dad, mine worker and ‘lovable larrikin’ tragically killed when his Landcruiser left the road and rolled

A miner and father is being fondly remembered after his death in a tragic car accident.

Adam Hoyes, 44, from Rocky Point in Queensland, died after his Toyota Landcruiser rolled near the mining town of Weipa on the Cape York Peninsula on Monday evening.

The single-vehicle crash happened on Kerr Point Road around 10:30 p.m.

Emergency services attended and Mr Hoyes was taken to Townsville University Hospital in a critical condition, where he died on Wednesday.

Mr Hoyes’ wife Nat paid tribute to her husband, writing: ‘Adam tragically passed away after being in a horrific car accident in our home town of Weipa late on Monday evening.’

“We would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

“We will arrange for the funeral to take place in Townsville, details to follow.”

Friends posted messages of condolence on social media.

“Thinking of you all at this devastating time, I hope that the love and support of your family, friends and the Weipa community will bring you all strength and comfort,” a friend wrote.

“I’ll never forget memories of the mischief we caused… RIP buddy,” wrote another.

Queensland Police are appealing for any information, witnesses or dashcam that could assist their investigation into Mr Hoyes’ accident.
