Wedding planner left outraged after caterer fails to turn up for terminally-ill bride’s reception
Weddings can be stressful at the best of times, but an event planner is outraged after a vendor failed to show up to a terminally ill bride’s reception.
According to the planner, she had organized the reception for a bride with terminal cancer, but after confirming they would be at the reception, they “completely ghosted” the couple.
To make matters worse, the catering was a donation as part of the Wish Upon A Wedding program – a national non-profit organization that provides weddings and vow renewals to couples dealing with terminal illness or life-changing health conditions.
“Which means there’s not even any point in scamming,” she explained in a Reddit post shared with the Subreddit for Wedding Shaming.
The planner assured Reddit users that a restaurant in the Eastern Virginia region had stepped up to cater the event, but some guests left after not receiving any liquids for two hours.
‘I feel so bad, I did what I could. But this should have been such a beautiful day, a true gift for a couple who faced unimaginable hardship,” she wrote.
The wedding planner explained that she took over this event ten days before the wedding because the original planner and the couple were not getting along.
“There was a lot of trouble,” she admitted. “The lead planner yelled at the terminal cancer patient.”

“I’m so upset about that, and it’s a good thing she got fired. I’m glad I stepped in because the couple loved me, but I inherited a LOT of work. I felt like I had to plan almost an entire wedding in a week,” she added.
The planner later updated her post to explain that she had given the catering company a chance to explain themselves, but they couldn’t.
“The original caterer has blocked me on all accounts,” she wrote indignantly.
“She blocked the bride on all accounts. Her website no longer works. I don’t even know how I could rate her if I wanted to,” the exasperated planner summed up.
“All I did was email her to ask if she was okay and what happened that she didn’t show up.
‘I definitely did NOT come out on fire, I really gave her a chance to explain herself. I am shocked,” she wrote.
The planner responded to people who suggested that the planner and caterer were in cahoots and assured them that this was not the case.
“I know the planner personally and although she was negligent and mean to the cancer patient, she is not negligent,” she argued.
The planner added that it was the first wedding the old planner had done herself, and that she had very few connections and had not had enough time to build loyalty with another caterer.
Yet no one at the wedding had ever seen anything like it.

‘I asked the other sellers if they had seen something like this before. Combined, they had more than 100 years of marriage experience. Not a single one of them has experienced a no-show from a caterer,” she claimed.
“The original planner also threw me under the bus for Wish Upon a Wedding. I called them, ready to show them the proof, and they believed me,” she wrote in a final update to the post.
‘So relieved! I love this organization and want to do this again!’
Users were outraged by the story and shared their opinions in the comments.
‘There is nothing less than ruining the wedding of a terminal cancer patient. It takes some guts to even think about doing something like that. I’m glad you found someone to fill in, and that restaurant deserves all the extra business they get!’ one user gushed.
“There is something seriously wrong with the original planner if she is actually yelling at a terminal cancer patient. I’m sure planners often want to yell at clients, but they don’t. I seriously think the planner and the caterer were in cahoots. Can you get a local TV news survey? Does the caterer have good reviews?’ asked another.
‘I’m sorry for you, the bride and groom and the guests. Karma will eventually hit the nasty caterer.”
