Wedding guest left fuming over bride and groom’s ‘inconsiderate’ act after planning destination nuptials

A woman is furious after her niece decided to get married instead of having her lavish wedding in another city without telling anyone, leaving her aunt out of pocket.

In a Reddit post, the woman explained that about four years ago, her husband’s cousin Jennifer announced her engagement. She did this about 14 months before they were to get married, so that everyone had enough time to make travel arrangements.

“About a month before the planned wedding, the bride’s father mentioned, in a VERY casual manner, that Jennifer had gotten married the previous weekend, albeit in a new destination and with a very limited number of guests in attendance,” she wrote in the post shared with the Subreddit about marriage shame.

“Up until that point, we had never been notified of any new developments or changes to the original plans! No card, no email, NOTHING!” she raged, adding that they had even received a save the date card with information about the destination wedding seven months before their planned nuptials.

“And because we didn’t hear the news until after the fact, it was too late to cancel our reservations and/or change our flight,” she added.

‘That’s why we lost quite a bit of money!’

While she acknowledged that “life goes on” and “plans change” — and the couple had changed their wedding plans at the time due to COVID restrictions — she continued to wonder why they were never informed of the changed plans.

“I think it would have been better if we had let ourselves and the other unsubscribers know via a mass email, rather than no communication at all,” the woman stressed.

The bride and groom ultimately decided not to go, as it was only a short trip, purely for the wedding, and it wasn’t worth it if the wedding didn’t happen.

“Breach of etiquette, thoughtless and yes, vulgar!” she said of the fiasco.

In an update, the woman said that Jennifer, her husband and their new baby were in town at the time, but she didn’t feel like seeing them.

“My husband told me yesterday that he’s going out for dinner tonight, and since Jennifer and others are going, would I like to come? I just laughed and said, ‘That’s tough!'” she admitted.

“Like I said before, I would find it really hard to even pretend to be nice to her,” she continued. “That’s why I stay away… far away!”

Reddit users were shocked by the selfish decision not to inform the guests and felt sorry for the woman.

“Yeeesh, what would have happened if you hadn’t run into her dad? Or if he hadn’t bothered to mention it?” one person wrote.

Others shared stories from their own similar situations.

“This happened to me!” exclaimed another user, explaining that a coworker of hers got married over the summer a few years ago and so she hadn’t seen her in a month,” another raged.

‘We drove 2 hours to the location and there was no one there!

“It turned out she had canceled the wedding and her mother had contacted the guests, but not everyone.”

Someone else chimed in: “This is horrible and a reminder to everyone to never, ever say yes to an offsite wedding.”

“That’s absurd,” said one commentator.

“They should compensate their guests. I can’t imagine that they would do something so incredibly rude and selfish.”
