A guest at an upcoming wedding was furious about the arrangements the bride and groom had made for the reception.

The participant went to Reddit’s subreddit about marriage shame to complain about the situation and call it “the most bizarre “reception” idea ever.”

She further explained, “My husband has a friend who is getting married next year.

‘He and his fiancée booked a posh mansion in an expensive neighborhood for the ceremony and dinner.

‘But the venue doesn’t allow music after 9pm and to save money, they don’t even play music at all.

‘Instead of dancing and socializing after dinner, the couple asks guests to leave at 9 p.m. and join them at a crowded nightclub somewhere else in the city. They can then dance and drink at their own expense.

“They call this plan their reception.”

Furthermore, the nightclub the bride and groom had chosen for the reception was not exactly known for being easy to get into.

“The nightclub is one of those places where you have to pay a lot and people have to queue to get in,” the guest explained.

“I think this is an incredibly stupid idea and I can’t imagine guests going along with it. I thought I had heard it all, but this takes the cake.”

Redditors expressed their displeasure over the ill-conceived plans for the reception in the comments.

“Considering that one of the main purposes of a reception is to thank and welcome guests, this is an odd choice,” one person wrote.

‘I mean, having an “afterparty” isn’t weird, but expecting people to line up and pay for it themselves? A bit low-brow…’ a second agreed.

“I wish people would just have weddings they could afford. I bet the bride is obsessed with the ‘perfect wedding photos’ and prioritizes a fancy venue over the guest experience,” speculated a third.

Others shared similar stories of poorly planned wedding receptions and their disastrous consequences.

As one recalled: ‘I once went to a Great Gatsby themed night at a fancy local bar with a nice seating area. What I didn’t know until I paid the bill [cover] The reason for this was that it was a wedding reception and the couple had opened the venue to the public. They were charging an entrance fee to cover some of the costs. However, they had not informed the other guests of this.

“I knew a few people there, but not the couple. It was SO WEIRD that random people would come by and ask how we knew the couple.”

A second chimed in: ‘My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have done this kind of thing… They had to be out of their venue at 9pm so they did everything early with apps at 4pm and dinner at 5pm to make sure they could party at the venue for a few more hours. That was all sorted anyway….

‘Because they are heavy drinkers and wanted to keep the party going, they held an afterparty at a local bar/club, but they failed to mention that guests had to pay for drinks or that there was an entrance fee. They also failed to inform the bar in advance that they were expecting a sudden influx of almost 100 people. They just “assumed” that everything would be fine.

“Needless to say, it wasn’t pleasant. And this was in an expensive tourist area during the tourist season.”
