The grim map that shows nobody is safe from huge rain bomb: What you need to know about when it will strike your city
Most of the country will experience wet conditions this week as a series of cold fronts move across Australia.
A band of rain over Western Australia will move eastwards through the weekend, bringing wet weather to 80 percent of the country.
Christie Johnson from the Bureau of Meteorology said the rain will start to flow eastwards from Wednesday.
‘We could see rain in inland WA and even towards the end of the day, extending into western parts of South Australia,” she said.
‘As we enter Thursday, that system continues its path across the country with a cloud band stretching from the Kimberley across the Northern Territory to South Australia and, by the end of the day, western parts of NSW, Victoria and Tasmania.’
Ms Johnson warned the strong winds generated by the system could affect western and southern Tasmania and the alpine regions in Victoria and NSW.
“However, on Friday that system will tend to move eastwards, with rainfall concentrating mainly in north-eastern NSW,” she said.
Weather zone meteorologist Ben Domensino explained that the wet conditions are due to a “blocking high pressure pattern that has dominated Australia’s weather for the past two months and is eventually breaking down.”
