Apple isn’t done with announcements this year, as after the recent launch of the iPhone 15 line, the Apple Watch 9 and a separate announcement for a new Apple Pencil, the company is now about to host a ‘Scary Fast’ event to hold. Most of what we expect are new Macs and Macbooks, but a regulatory filing indicates we may also see the iPad mini 7.
MacRumors saw that an application for the battery used in the iPad mini 6 was recently resubmitted to a Chinese regulatory database, in a move that could indicate a new iPad mini model is on the way.
Previously, for example, this happened when Apple Watch 8 batteries were resubmitted prior to the launch of Apple Watch 9.
The reason old batteries could indicate a new model is that Apple could reuse them for the iPad mini 7, which in other words means it could have a 5,124 mAh battery like the current model. Other leaks suggest that the iPad mini 7 will have a more powerful chipset than its predecessor, but will otherwise be very similar.
More likely in March
We’re not counting on seeing this at today’s Apple event, though, because while this regulatory filing certainly points to the possibility, several reputable speakers have suggested otherwise, with the latest claim coming from Mark Gurman, who says he doesn’t expect any new ones. iPads until March.
It would also seem strange if Apple announced a new Apple Pencil on its own, and then announced a new iPad a few weeks later. Wouldn’t it make more sense to announce those things together?
So we doubt a new iPad mini will be unveiled today – or any other iPads for that matter – but it would certainly be a not-so-scary surprise if one were revealed.
The event kicks off on October 30 at 5pm PT, or 12pm GMT / 11am AEDT on October 31, and if you want to follow along, here’s how to watch the Apple October ‘Scary Fast’ event live.
