We may have our first look at the Google Pixel Tablet software

The Google Pixel tablet takes time on the journey between the device’s initial unveiling (May 2022) and actually being available to buy (sometime in 2023), and that means a high potential for leaks and rumors.
As noted by the team at 9to5Google (opens in new tab)we may have gotten our first look at the software running onboard the Pixel Tablet, through a blog post (opens in new tab) on hotkey updates coming to the Google Keep app on Android.
It’s hard to know for sure, but it makes sense that Google engineers would already be using the tablet internally, and the GIF can be scaled up to the expected Pixel Tablet screen resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.

The animated image doesn’t tell us too much about what the Pixel Tablet is going to look like software-wise, but we can see a linked row of icons at the bottom of the screen and the familiar Android status bar at the top.
That status bar is bigger than usual on an Android phone, leaving room for what looks like a Google account switch button so you can quickly jump between different users on the device.
The green and black color scheme matches some of the promotional material (opens in new tab) that Google has also released further evidence that this image was indeed taken from a Pixel tablet running Android 12L.
Analysis: what we know so far
When it comes to what we know so far about the Google Pixel tablet, we’ve got a mix of officially confirmed details plus a few unofficial leaks and rumours. For example, Google itself has said that the tablet will use the same Tensor G2 chipset that the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones run on.
We also know that a Charging Speaker Dock accessory will be available for the Google Pixel Tablet, which will charge the slate and also turn it into a sort of smart home hub – just like the Google Nest Hub, really.
When it comes to unconfirmed rumors, it has mentioned a 10.95-inch display, Wi-Fi 6 and internal storage options of 128 GB and 256 GB. It has also been discussed that the tablet will come with 4 GB of RAM.
Those leaks suggest something more mid-range rather than premium, but we’ll have to wait and see to know for sure. Google has told us that the device will arrive sometime in 2023 – we can’t be more precise than that, but since it was announced in May 2022, we’re expecting it sooner rather than later.
