We have rescued tourists, says official after fire breaks out at Dal Lake

Some tourists were rescued after a fire broke out in Dal Lake in Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir, fire officials said on Saturday.

The official added that around 5-8 houseboats and huts were destroyed in the fire.

The fire started at 5:15 am on Saturday morning.

“Around 5 to 8 houseboats and cabins have been destroyed by the fire. We cannot identify the source of this fire, we are identifying it. We immediately started the rescue operation after receiving the call,” said Station House Officer Fire Service, Farooq Ahmad. told ANI.

He further said that they also asked for manpower from the district headquarters in Srinagar.

After a call, firefighters arrived on the scene and started a rescue operation.

“The situation is under control… There were five houseboats and eight huts… We have also rescued tourists,” the official further added.

Officials also said there were no immediate reports of injuries or loss of life in the fire.

The fire, which started late Friday night in one of the houseboats, spread quickly and engulfed several others.
