We have another clue as to which chipset the Samsung Galaxy S25 may be using
The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S25 will most likely be more than six months away, and yet we’ve already heard plenty of leaks about what to expect – and the latest to catch our attention concerns the chipset the smartphone series will use.
According to ZDNet Korea (through Android Authority), Samsung is hard at work getting its own Exynos 2500 chip ready in time to fit into a significant number of Galaxy S25 smartphones in certain parts of the world.
The chipset will improve both performance and efficiency (which helps battery life) compared to the Exynos 2400 deployed in the Samsung Galaxy S24 in some regions, but Samsung is apparently struggling to get it right now to be produced on a sufficiently large scale.
There is still time to improve the situation, but Samsung may have to use the unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor in all its Samsung Galaxy 25 phones – something that was already rumored in March.
Recent history
The Samsung Galaxy S24 and Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor in the US, Canada and China, and Samsung’s own Exynos 2400 processor in other parts of the world.
As for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, that phone uses the Snapdragon chipset wherever it is sold in the world. It was also all Snapdragon on the phones from 2023: on the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus and the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
While the Snapdragon chips are generally considered more powerful, the difference in day-to-day performance isn’t usually huge – and by also using its own Exynos chips, Samsung can save money and maintain more control over hardware design.
If Samsung sticks to the same schedule as this year, the Galaxy S25 phones will be released in January 2025 – and then we’ll find out whether or not Samsung managed to add some Exynos models alongside the phones powered by Qualcomm silicon .
