  • Harry Kane made his Bayern Munich debut in a Super Cup defeat to RB Leipzig
  • Thomas Tuchel was delighted with the signing in the pre-match interview
  • Kane could not prevent his team from losing 3-0 after coming on as a substitute in the 60th minute

Thomas Tuchel couldn’t hide the smile on his face when questioned about Bayern Munich’s £100 million signing of Harry Kane on Saturday.

The Bundesliga champions completed the signing of the Tottenham striker on the morning of their German Super Cup tie against RB Leipzig.

Kane started on the bench as Bayern were beaten 3-0 by their Bundesliga rivals ahead of the start of the league season next weekend.

The England captain was brought on by Tuchel in the 63rd minute of the match at the Allianz Arena and failed to collect the first silverware of his career.

Tuchel seemed happy enough with his new signing ahead of kick-off.

He told being into sports: ‘We brought the English skipper from England to the German competition!

“It’s a huge achievement for everyone involved in the transfer.”

During the short pre-match interview, the former Chelsea boss appeared to be overjoyed.

Given that Kane arrives in Germany with 213 Premier League goals, it’s perhaps no surprise that his new manager is excited about what he could achieve at Bayern.

Tuchel quickly identified the characteristics that meant signing Kane was a no-brainer for the Bundesliga giants.

He said: ‘We have a very strong number 9, a huge personality, a top man.

“(It’s a) Big signing for the club and a big statement in Europe.”

However, Kane will have to wait longer to secure the first trophy of his career.

His new teammates were already 2-0 down when he took the field for the first time as a Bayern player.

A hat-trick from Dani Olmo meant it was Leipzig that took home the silverware, and the Spanish midfielder’s third goal of the night came from the penalty spot just five minutes after Kane came on.

Bayern will begin their Bundesliga title defense with a trip to Werder Bremen on Friday, August 18.
