‘We don’t want Kate to turn into Meghan Markle!’: The Mail’s Richard Eden reveals in PALACE CONFIDENTIAL critics’ fears over the Princess of Wales’s video – and says clip left him ‘uneasy’
According to the Mail’s Richard Eden, some in royal circles are concerned that the Princess of Wales’s slick video announcing her completion of chemotherapy resembles Meghan Markle’s.
Richard told Palace Confidential, the weekly Mail+ chat show, that insiders believe the three-minute clip, which shows Kate in the countryside with Prince William and their children, “is something Meghan would have loved to have done.”
They don’t want Catherine to ‘turn’ into Meghan, he added.
Richard also said he felt “uncomfortable” with the clip, adding that it looked like an attempt to make a “Hollywood trailer.”

Speaking to Mail+’s weekly chat show, Eden said the three-minute video made him “uncomfortable” and that some people felt it was something “Meghan would have liked to have done”. Above: Meghan and Harry in their Netflix docuseries
He sat next to Rebecca English, editor of the Mail, and said: ‘A lot of people have said to me, “Oh, you know, this is exactly what Meghan would like to do, because she’s an actress, and we don’t want Catherine to turn into Meghan.”
In 2022, Harry and Meghan released a shocking six-part Netflix docuseries about their lives and the turmoil that followed their decision to step down as working royals and move to America.
Personal insights into their relationship were featured, alongside footage of them lovingly interacting with each other and coping with their family life.
Kate and William have also tried using video footage in the past.
A five-minute film was made for the King’s coronation, featuring clips of the bride and groom and their children preparing for the royal event. In December, they also released a video looking back on the year.

Richard added of this week’s video: ‘The Royal Family should be different. They should be dignified, not chasing this.
“Yes, it’s the way Catherine would like to tell her story, but she’s surrounded by advisors.
‘And people say, “We want to get a lot of hits on YouTube or something, and I think the royal family should be above that.
“They don’t have to be the Kardashians.”
However, Rebecca English found the footage an “honest” glimpse into Catherine and William’s lives, although she stressed that they should remain “authentic” in their video communications.
“I think it was actually a very honest look at their lives. In my piece this week with William and Kate, I wrote that it’s really what you see is what you get. The kids have a lack of technology and they spend a lot of time outdoors. That’s really portrayed in this video.”
However, Rebecca English, the Mail’s royal editor, said the footage provided an “honest” insight into Catherine and William’s lives, although she still stressed the need to remain “authentic” in their video communications.

The three-minute footage showed the Prince and Princess of Wales playing cards with their children on a picnic blanket. Catherine’s parents were also seen, but King Charles and Queen Camilla were not visible.
The family was also seen on the beach and in a wooded area.
Rebecca believes the royal family is making better use of video and social media, but she warns that the content must still be authentic.
She added: ‘They are becoming more professional and improving their game, but I do see that it also has to be authentic.
“I think it’s one of those things that you have to approach with some caution.”
