We asked top AI chatbots for their predictions for 2024… and it produced some VERY alarming results
From ChatGPT taking the world by storm to causing historic Hollywood strikes. Artificial intelligence had its breakthrough in 2023.
So what's in store for cutting-edge technology in 2024? DailyMail.com asked the leading AI chatbots to predict their own fates – Google's Bard and Amazon-backed Claude – and got some very alarming results.
We chose these two language models because they use live information from the Internet to make their predictions, unlike ChatGPT and Microsoft'S Bing that rely on older data.
These were the results:
AI systems may be able to reason on their own
Claude.ai predicted that the first AI models would show signs of AGI – 'artificial general intelligence'.
AGI is a theoretically intelligent agent that can complete any intellectual task a human can perform – and the arrival of AGI is expected to bring about enormous changes in human society.
AI has made some big predictions for 2024
Backed by Google and Amazon, Claude's parent company Anthropic was founded by former members of OpenAI, makers of ChatGPT.
Claude told DailyMail.com: 'In recent years we have seen AI algorithms match or even surpass human performance in specialized tasks such as object recognition, playing games and language processing.
'Techniques such as deep learning and neural networks that run on a powerful computing infrastructure have driven these leaps forward. Major investments from major tech companies and startups suggest that the pace of innovation will not slow down anytime soon.
'And some AI researchers expect that we are now closer to 'Artificial General Intelligence' (AGI) – algorithms that can match the flexibility and adaptability of humans in different environments and tasks.
“Groups like DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Brain, and Anthropic are pursuing this goal of AGI. While we probably won't be able to fully crack general intelligence in 2024, we may see demos of systems that will exhibit more elaborate reasoning, creativity, and decision-making skills.”
Claude.ai said issues surrounding AI could include systems that behave unpredictably, and task automation that exceeds workers' ability to adapt.
Biotechnology will 'upgrade' humans
Bard predicted that biotechnological breakthroughs could occur in 2024 that would “upgrade” the human race.
The AI suggested this could include breakthroughs in 'Brain Computer Interfaces', where human brains connect to computers.
AI has made some big predictions for 2024
Elon Musk's Neuralink will test such technology on volunteers in the coming year.
Analysis by Foresight Factory this year suggested that more than a third of consumers would like to have such a chip implanted to connect more easily to computer systems.
Bard said: 'Advances in biocompatible materials and robotic engineering could lead to bionic limbs that restore near-natural motor function or even exceed human limitations in strength and dexterity. Exoskeletons can increase physical capabilities for heavy lifting, military applications or helping the elderly.
'Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) can enable direct communication between the brain and computer systems, allowing control over prosthetics, external devices or even virtual environments. Possible applications include communication for people with paralysis, improved creativity and productivity, or even brain-to-brain communication.”
“Devices that create realistic touch sensations have the potential to revolutionize virtual reality and other immersive experiences, providing improved feedback in medical training, gaming and entertainment.”
The beginning of personalized medicine
Personalized medicine, where treatments are tailored to the individual based on their DNA, has the potential to transform human life on a massive scale.
Bard predicted that AI could enable new breakthroughs in personalized medicine in the coming year.
'Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, aims to tailor treatments and preventive strategies to each individual's unique genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. In this search, AI is emerging as a game-changer, enabling breakthroughs in various aspects of healthcare:
'By deciphering large amounts of genetic data, AI can identify risk factors for specific diseases, enabling proactive interventions and personalized prevention plans.
“AI can mine electronic health records (EHRs) to reveal hidden patterns and connections between symptoms, medications, and outcomes, leading to more accurate diagnoses and personalized treatment recommendations.
“AI can analyze patient data and predict how they may respond to different treatments, allowing doctors to choose the most effective and least harmful options for each individual.”
Barad said issues surrounding the use of AI in medicine include securing personal data and ensuring AI does not treat patients in a biased manner.
As the 2024 elections approach, concerns about foreign interference and manipulation through cyber attacks and disinformation campaigns are increasing. These threats, which are often intertwined, can significantly influence public opinion, sow division and ultimately undermine the integrity of democratic processes.
Election hacking warning
With the US presidential election looming, Google's Bard predicted that malicious actors will try to undermine the election using technology.
Such attacks could include attacks on voting machines in an attempt to undermine confidence in the outcome, warned Bard with Gemini Pro.
AI has made some big predictions for 2024
Bard said: “Malicious actors can target voter registration databases, voting machines or election results reporting systems to disrupt the voting process, cast doubt on the outcome or manipulate the results.
“Stealing sensitive voter data or campaign information can be used for blackmail, targeted disinformation campaigns, or voter suppression tactics.
'Bots and fake accounts can be used to spread propaganda, amplify certain narratives and silence opposing voices. Deepfakes, manipulated videos or audio recordings can further blur the lines between truth and fiction.
“Tailored fake news articles, social media posts or even personalized emails can exploit existing biases and fears to steer voters towards specific candidates or discourage them from voting altogether.”
Tensions with China are rising
Anthropic's Claude predicts that tensions between the US and China will continue to rise in 2024.
Tensions between Taiwan and China, which considers the democratically governed island its own territory, have soared in the past four years as China tries to assert its sovereignty claims under political and military pressure.
Claude said: 'The relationship between China and the US and its Western allies has become increasingly tense in recent years due to several key factors:
T'aiwan remains one of the most controversial issues. China views Taiwan as a breakaway province that must be reunited with the mainland, if necessary by force.
'But Taiwan has evolved into a separate, democratic society with its own identity. The US has historically supported Taiwan's right to self-determination and provided weapons for its defense, raising tensions with China.
“If Taiwan takes steps toward formal independence in 2024, it could provoke a more aggressive stance or even military action from China.”
