In Hollywood, actor Kevin Bacon is a big star. In Kenosha County, Wisconsin, Kevin Bacon is one big pig!
The 500-pound porker walked out of his pen last week and then walked down the road, where he was caught holding him on the Molgaard family’s security camera.
“My wife noticed an unusually shaped figure on our driveway camera as he walked past our garage,” Jake Molgaard said Wednesday, adding that the bulky stranger “eventually came straight to our back door.”
Well, what do you do when a large, four-legged neighbor comes to your house on a Friday evening?
“My wife immediately started feeding him,” said Molgaard, 40, a local business owner. “She does that to every animal that comes into our backyard.”
After the couple watched Kevin prune away some apples, rice cakes, tomatoes and carrots, Molgaard said it was time to find out who their new friend belonged to.
Molgaard lives in Brighton, about 38 miles south of Milwaukee, and is not a farmer, but there are farms nearby. He called a farmer friend who not only knew the pig’s owner but also had his phone number.
The owner was out of town, but said he would appreciate it if the family could “lure” the big pig back to his pen. And oh yes, he added, Kevin likes cookies, marshmallows and other sweets.
The couple gathered some tempting treats and then led Kevin down a path and along a side road where the sheriff was called in as an escort for security.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office says on its Facebook page that it dispatched deputies after receiving a “typical county call.”
The deputies arrived, took a few photos with Kevin and left smiling, Molgaard said.
Mr. Bacon and his new temporary keepers completed the rest of the journey alone, with the Molgaards’ 16-year-old daughter jumping on the pig’s hairy back to get him moving again every time he thought twice about to go home.
About a mile later, by the glow of a flashlight in the darkness, Kevin Bacon was led back to his cage safe and sound.
“He is a huge creature, but the owner says he is a gentle giant,” Molgaard said. “We’ve been there every day giving him a dozen donuts.”
