Wayne Rooney’s younger brother scores stunning halfway line strike for Macclesfield… replicating his sibling’s wonder goal at Everton in 2017

Wayne Rooney isn’t the only member of his family who can score miraculous goals from the halfway line.

His younger brother John, long in the shadow of the Manchester United, Everton and England legend, enjoyed his moment in the spotlight on Tuesday after scoring a screamer from inside his own half during the 1-1 draw of Macclesfield v Basford United.

The midfielder first showed great physicality to win possession in his own half and quickly fired a long-range effort towards goal, slotting the ball past the non-league outfit’s desperate goalkeeper.

Ex-England captain Wayne, who had a reputation for scoring prodigious goals during his glittering career at Manchester United, Everton, DC United and Derby, scored a similar feat for the Toffees in a 4-0 win over West Ham six years ago.

Noticing Joe Hart stranded off his goal line, the striker pounced on the ball in his own half and drilled it from distance into the empty net, completing a stunning hat-trick in front of his Goodison Park fans.

Wayne also scored a sensational strike from distance in Red Devils colors in 2014, smashing the ball into the net from just inside his own half against the Hammers.

And towards the end of his DC United career, with arguably the best of the bunch, Wayne scored from 60 yards against Orlando in 2019.

The 38-year-old, who has turned to management since retiring, is now the head coach of Birmingham City, having previously coached Derby and DC United in the MLS.

He has struggled to hit the ground running at St Andrew’s, but still managed one win in his first five games in charge.
