England football legend and DC United coach Wayne Rooney believes the United States has a chance to shock England after watching both teams play in the opening games of the World Cup.

“USA was excellent in the first half against Wales. They moved the ball quickly, were aggressive and had a lot of energy in their game,” Rooney told The Times of the USA’s game against Wales.

“I think the approach of the Americans here will be similar.”

“They will be on the front foot and try to bring the game to England and it will be a very different challenge to England against Iran. A difficult game.’

“England have to be there from the start of the game or they might get a shock.”

Rooney went on to name some of the best players on the American side such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Yunus Musah, Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams.

He also said that there are several very good MLS players on the US team and that while it is not at the level of the English Premier League, the increase in quality of the US national league has played a big part in how the team is now plays. .

“The MLS may not be the Premier League, but it is a level significantly higher than the Championship.” said Rooney.
