Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed how he spent an ‘uncomfortable’ night out with his wife Coleen along with two Man City players – just hours after losing the Manchester derby 6-1 in October 2011.
A party was held at Wing’s, a popular hangout for footballers and other celebrities, and a particular favorite of Rooney’s, who once held a Q&A with United fans at the restaurant.
Several United and City players have been spotted at Wing’s over the years, and even Alex Ferguson has been eating there in 2013.
The night after United’s loss of the derby 11 years ago, Rooney spent the evening with England team-mates Gareth Barry and Joe Hart, who were both playing for City at the time.
Sign up the Sunday Times, he recalled: ‘It was terrible. The last thing I wanted to do was go out or do anything – especially not hang out with two City players, even though they’re both friends.

“In retrospect I might have had to cancel, but a lot of people came and it felt hard to do that. So I went. And it was uncomfortable. Not the best night.’
Rooney wrote that the party was held to celebrate his wife’s birthday, but this seems unlikely as the derby in question took place in October and Coleen’s birthday in April.
The match was a sort of changing of the guard for Premier League football, as Rooney explained: “They had great players. It was the game where you really thought, “These can challenge and try.”‘
City won the Premier League in dramatic fashion as two goals in stoppage time against QPR on the final day of the season took United to take the title.
City have since added a further five league titles, while United have won just one.
