Wayne Rooney has been charged by the FA with improper conduct after being sent off during Plymouth Argyle’s championship win over Blackburn.
The former England and Man United captain is trying to establish his managerial career in the second division and has had a mixed start to the season with his Plymouth side in mid-table.
Rooney was sacked after reacting angrily to Blackburn’s equalizer being allowed to stand in the 86th minute of Saturday’s home match.
Plymouth were adamant that an error had been made in the build-up to the match and Rooney apparently said something which upset fourth official Jacob Miles, who informed referee James Linington.
Rooney was then shown red by Linington, who refused to allow the Plymouth manager to escape without any punishment for his outburst.

Rooney can now appeal against the charges imposed on him by the FA over his alleged conduct
The FA has now formally charged the 38-year-old in the case and will give him until Tuesday, October 15, to respond if he wishes to appeal.
A spokesperson reportedly said Rooney’s behavior was inappropriate and that he used offensive language towards a match official, which led to him being dismissed.
It is also alleged that the Man United legend displayed inappropriate and/or violent behavior after being sent off and later displayed an inappropriate attitude by returning to the field of play.
Rooney later admitted he deserved to be punished for his actions and is now expected to receive a match ban.
‘It was my first time as a manager [getting sent off]he told talkSPORT.
‘As a manager or head coach I think decisions are made on the pitch and in retrospect it’s a free kick so the goal shouldn’t have stood.

‘In the Championship you don’t have VAR so the officials missed it and your emotions come up and you know, I’m a passionate person, we want to win.
“We worked extremely hard to win the game and to have that taken away by what I think was a mistake by the referees was very harsh. I reacted in a way that shouldn’t have happened and the red card was justified,” Rooney said.
