The jersey worn by Wayne Gretzky as he scored his last NHL point in his final game in the league is up for auction.
Gray flannel auctions is putting up Gretzky’s jersey he wore for the New York Rangers in his last game on April 18, 1999 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In that game, Gretzky—widely regarded as the greatest hockey player of all time—assisted Brian Leetch on a goal at 7:30 p.m. of the second period.
The jersey has been verified and confirmed by the Rangers as the real piece of clothing Gretzky was wearing.
A letter from John Rosasco, the Rangers’ Vice President of Public Relations, says he personally witnessed Gretzky presenting this jersey to Mike Barnett. Barnett was Gretzky’s agent and he’s putting this up for sale.

The jersey was displayed at Madison Square Garden’s ‘Defining Moments’ museum in the concourse from 2013 to 2019.
Gretzky signed his name on the shirt with the date he wore it, next to a tag that read ‘Game Jersey Set 2 1998-1999 season’.
‘The Great One’ wore three jerseys during his last game. The first he gave to Rangers GM Neil Smith, the second will be auctioned and the third he kept for himself.
That third jersey, worn during the game’s third period, is currently in Toronto’s Hockey Hall of Fame.
Currently there have been 11 bids on the item – with the current highest bid exceeding $189,000.
