The wife of a top fashion designer has sought refuge with friends in Sydney for days after she was allegedly attacked by her husband, who has quietly returned to their Byron Bay home.
Elizabeth Adams is believed to be staying with friends while she manages her latest dispute with her husband’s designer Wayne Cooper.
Cooper, 61, reportedly became involved in a violent argument with Ms Adams, 47, which allegedly involved a wine bottle at an apartment complex on Campbell Parade in Bondi.
Ms Adams took her claims to police on Sunday evening, prompting an investigation into the alleged incident.
The British-born designer was charged with one count of assault and was issued an interim arrest warrant (AVO) later that evening.
He is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Thursday where he will reportedly plead not guilty.
“I don’t see how this could bring their relationship back,” said a friend close to the couple.

It’s the latest story in the couple’s tumultuous relationship.
Three months ago, a Byron Bay magistrate imposed a two-year AVO on Ms Adams, preventing her from assaulting or threatening Cooper.
However, in September Mrs Adams said her husband’s continued links with first wife and mother of his two children, Sarah Marsh, had put ‘enormous pressure’ on the couple, who have only been married for nine months.
“As Princess Diana said, ‘There are three of us in this marriage,’ so it’s getting a little busy,” she explained.
“But despite the uncertainties, my commitment to Wayne remains steadfast. Our love for each other is contagious and we are more committed than ever.”
The alleged assault came days after the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary on December 1 last year, after tying the knot nine months after meeting and falling ‘madly in love’ following the breakdown of Cooper’s 25-year relationship with Marsh.

The British-born designer popped the question to Ms Adams as he hid an engagement ring in a bowl of caviar during a romantic dinner at Bondi Icebergs.
Cooper and Marsh’s tumultuous 14-year marriage had ended earlier in 2022 and police took out an AVO on behalf of the former model.
She alleged that in December 2015, during an argument, Cooper threw clothes into the pool of their Tamarama home, grabbed her by both arms and pushed her against a glass door.
However, in August last year he was acquitted of two charges of domestic violence at Waverley Local Court, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Magistrate Emma Manea said she doubted Ms Marsh’s reliability and her allegations that he assaulted her twice in 2015 and 2016.
Despite her ex tying the knot shortly after their divorce, Ms Marsh said she has no plans to find love again anytime soon.
“Now that I’m out of a 30-year relationship, I’m in no rush to settle down or maintain a relationship,” she said in September.
‘My priority is taking care of myself and my children.’
