Watergardens Shopping Centre, Melbourne rocked by second alleged knife incident just hours after it went into lockdown

A teenage boy is alleged to have threatened customers with a machete at a busy Melbourne shopping center just hours after a separate alleged knife incident left the mall on lockdown.

Police allege the 15-year-old boy shouted threats while armed at the Watergardens Shopping Center in Melbourne’s west about 7.30pm on Friday.

The teenager, who was detained by security, has since been arrested and charged with uttering threats to kill and armed with criminal intent.

The terrifying alleged incident comes just hours after a man allegedly armed with a knife sent the same shopping center into lockdown.

Police allege that the 30-year-old man threatened a woman and a male employee at a travel agency with a knife at around 12.50pm.

The man was confronted by shoppers who were caught on video holding the alleged assault on the ground before police arrived.

He has since been charged with two counts of unlawful assault, theft, making threats to kill and armed with intent.

In a statement, Victoria Police said they would be undertaking “proactive patrols” in the center on Saturday and Sunday.
