Watches of Switzerland calls time on working from home

Watches of Switzerland is calling on WFM as it becomes the latest firm to send staff back to the office

Watches of Switzerland has joined a number of companies in sending staff back to the office.

The luxury retailer, which sells Rolex and Omega timepieces, has instructed employees to return to their desks four days a week, including at its headquarters in Leicester and offices in central London.

The move is in line with Lloyds and asset manager Blackstone, among others, who have also asked home workers to come to the office more often.

The company “might even go back to a five-day work week,” CEO Brian Duffy said.

He has previously said London’s recovery from the pandemic has been hit by people not working in the city as much.

In recent months, bosses have defended requests for office workers to sit at their desks for a set number of days each week.

John Roberts, boss of electronics retailer AO World, has threatened that remote workers will be replaced by overseas workers.

He said, “You might as well work abroad, that’s just one step away from outsourcing.”
