Watch tonight’s Coronation of King Charles III in Australia on ABC, Sky News, Channel Nine and more

King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned tonight, Australian time, and the ceremony will be broadcast to millions around the world.

The event will begin with a procession at 10.20am (7.20pm AEST) before the coronation begins at 11am in London, which is 8pm AEST.

Massive crowds began to build up in London before dawn, along with a more visible security presence at landmarks along the coronation route, which starts at Buckingham Palace and travels along The Mall, through Whitehall and Parliament Square before reaching Westminster Abbey.

Many Royals fans camped out in London overnight in cold conditions.

Australians can watch the once-in-a-generation event as it unfolds with ABC, Sky News and Channel Seven among the outlets broadcasting the ceremony.

Residents can follow the ceremony and processions to and from Westminster Abbey live with ABC’s coverage of the event from 5pm ahead of the King’s Procession at 7.30pm.

The procession leaves Buckingham Palace to proceed through the Mall, through the Admiralty Arch and into Whitehall, accompanied by The Sovereign’s Escort of the Household Cavalry.

It will then travel down Parliament Street before finishing the half hour journey at Westminster Abbey.

The ABC will end coverage of the event shortly after 10.30pm with the royal family performing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

Watching for the coronation will also be available on the ABC app, ABC iview, or direct from the UK on streaming service BritBox.

Channel Seven starts coverage of the coronation at 7pm, while Channel 10 starts slightly earlier at 6pm. All reports end at 11:30 PM.

Sky News will cover the coronation from 3pm and streaming is also available on its website and app.

Nine journalists Peter Overton and Ally Langdon will broadcast the coronation from 5pm on Channel Nine in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania and on Nine Gem New South Wales and Queensland.

The ceremony is also available for streaming on Nine Now and is ad-free.

King Charles, 74, automatically took over the throne following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, last September.

He also acts as head of state in 14 realms – including Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Canada and Jamaica.

At Saturday’s coronation, he and Queen Consort Camilla will be officially crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby.

People watching from home will also be invited to take part in the proceedings for the first time by swearing allegiance to the new king as a tribute to the people.

Archbishop Welby will read the tribute for viewers to recite after Charles and Camilla are crowned.

“I call upon all persons of goodwill in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the other realms and territories, to pay homage, in heart and soul, to their undisputed king, defender of all, ‘ the Archbishop of Canterbury will say.

The audience is then asked to say, “I swear that I will give true allegiance to Your Majesty and to your heirs and successors according to law.” So help me God.’

The Archbishop will then say, “God save The King,” to which the audience is asked to respond, “God save King Charles, long live King Charles, may the King live forever.”
