Watch the moment Usman Khawaja finds out he is the best cricketer in the world after being honoured by the ICC during their awards ceremony

Usman Khawaja has been named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year, and the Australian veteran found out while playing cricket.

A message congratulating the opener was displayed on the Gabba screens on Thursday when Australia played the West Indies in their second Test match.

Khawaja, 36, took the opportunity to join his teammates and the crowd in applauding himself after a fantastic year in which he scored 1,210 points in 13 matches.

He beat stiff competition from teammate Travis Head, India star Ravichandran Ashwin and English rival Joe Root for the award.

Khawaja was a standout player during Australia’s tour of England for the Ashes last year, with his determined innings at Edgbaston helping his side to a crucial first Test win.
